Secrets Of Our Earth
Somehow the cares of this life and the deceitfulness of riches, to borrow Jesus’ words, seem to rob many of us older ones of the child like wonder in which we once beheld the earth, our home, our world. We wrongly see it as a cold, harsh, and cruel world, forgetting, because we cannot see it anymore, that this planet is alive with a glowing white hot heart that warms us from within even as the sun does from up above.
Not just one but many adults are heard to say these days, “I don’t see how we are going to make it through.” The believers reply is always the same, “You do not have to see to know a way is always provided.” I quoted a song I learned as a boy in church the other day, let me quote another.
“I don’t know about tomorrow
I just live from day to day
I don’t borrow from it’s sunshine
For its skies may turn to gray.
Many things about tomorrow
I don’t seem to understand
But I know who holds tomorrow
And I know who holds my hand.”
I have learned to question many of the things that I heard in church as a boy and have, I think, a more expansive, better, and more inclusive name for that hand holder, the Universe or my loving and infinite source, but I still believe with all my heart that we are not alone in this world and that a way is always provided.
As we are traveling on this spaceship earth spinning at speeds that boggle the mind we do not fly off into outer space due to a force scientist have named gravity, but I know the hand behind that force, gentle but powerful, for I know who holds tomorrow and I know who holds my hand, yours too, dear friends. We will make it through this, just wait and see.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
