The Secret Revealed – Be Glad And Be Grateful

The Secret according to Rhonda Byrne, author of best selling book and video “The Secret” is gratitude. But what do I have to be thankful for one might ask while going through an especially trying ordeal. The answer is why everything, of course. Some years ago I began to seek for answers outside the narrow and confining belief system in which I was raised. It amazes me how many clues there were all along that I missed and how when you begin to question all you thought was true but found just does not work for you any longer that the answers begin to come from no where and every where. The puzzle pieces start to fit. That reminds me of a little story I have probably shared before and most likely will again. Bear with me if you have heard it before. It is worth repeating.

Once upon a time (so many great stories begins that way about wonderful adventures in time and space) there was this multi-pieced large jigsaw puzzle that the puzzle solving adults were having great difficulty putting together. It was of a view of the earth from out in space, like one of those great first pictures taken from the first moon landing fifty years ago. For you conspiracy buffs, as my Paw Paw was and died believing we never went to the moon, there is a lot of irrefutable evidence that we did, we should always consider discarding any beliefs that no longer serve us. That is what growing up, evolving, allowing our best, highest, and brightest self to shine through, is all about. Even old dogs can learn a few new tricks if they pay attention. We may only get two sets of teeth but even in a single brief lifetime we can grow in knowledge, understanding, and yes even in tolerance and compassion if we allow ourselves to, and many times, over and over.

But back to the story, Wordy Guy. After all the “smart” adults had given the puzzle a try and gave up in frustrated defeat, a little girl gave it a shot and in no time had it all put together. The adults were astonished and in one voice exclaimed, “How did you do that and so fast?” Guileless the little girl smiled and said, “It was easy, there was a picture of a man on the back, when you put the man together, the world just fell into place.”

That is the big secret in a nut shell. It is all about figuring how to put the person together so all the pieces fit properly. Just shortly into my search a phrase came to me out of the blue. I am sure it was not an original thought, if there even is such a thing. I am more and more convinced that there is but One True Mind and as confused as we may often be we all have equal access to that same Bigger Brain. The thought new and shining that came to me was this:

“I am so glad and grateful that everything that I could ever want or need is already mine and coming to me at just the right time and in just the right way from my loving and a Infinite Source.”

A New Testament writer put it more briefly, “All things work together for good…”

The added disclaimer not withstanding (“ those who are called according to his purpose.”) His/Her, purpose is the same for all, as is the Universal call, “I want it all for all of you, just open up your hearts, minds, hands and believe, receive.”

Back to that believing thing again. It does matter what you believe. Continue to believe a lie after it no longer serves you and you damn yourself (not eternally but to circle in the dessert as much as forty years, till those old stubborn beliefs finally die off.) But quickly discard any beliefs that no longer serve you and grow, glow, and discover more of wonders of life.

The secret for you slow learners, like I for so long was, is BE GLAD AND GRATEFUL FOR ALL THINGS and to see them all as gifts from your Loving and Infinite Source. The message in Scripture is often garbled, misinterpreted, mangled or like that daunting jigsaw puzzle, hard to put together or make sense of, but the clues are always there. Here is one: “Every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father (Mother) Of Lights.” And you, my brother, my sister, and I are a part of that Godhead. So if you cannot believe a distant god always has your back and your best in mind, believe that your higher, best self always has and does. Don’t look a gift horse in the mouth. No matter what it may at first look like, what ever presents itself is always a gift.

Be glad and grateful,

Your friend, fellow traveler,

And adventurer in time and space,

David White
