The Way To End All Wars

No matter some peoples’s understanding or misunderstanding of one line regarding money I do not believe that money nor the love of it nor that the love of anything is evil. Evil like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That is always our only true choice, to see the world as beautiful or evil. Sadly, too many who would be masters over us have used fear to make us believe that all is evil and ugly especially money and material wealth. Talk about your bait and switch cons, it is our money and our undivided attention that they want most and would do or say anything quite literally to get it.

Some rant you got going there, Dave. And sometimes my rants are entertaining to my friends and disturbing to those who do not wish to be friends but rather to control. But you, my friends, know the truth and only the truth can set you free – free from the money lenders, the pretenders, and the politicians who as I already said, and will say again, they will do and say anything to get our money, to get our vote, to steal our power.

But what power do we little guys possible have, Dave? We have the power of the purse and the power of our attention. Take those away and the would be controllers have lost all control. We have manifested and funded War, the bloodiest monster of all. And I am not just talking about foreign wars but wars right here at home, class wars, race wars, drug wars, all for profit, but who are the profiteers? As they say in all the crime and mystery dramas, “Wanna know who the bad guys are, who’s pulling the strings, follow the money.” Where you find the greatest concentrations of wealth you will find malfeasance, malefactors, and mistrust, people living in their self made prisons, gated communities with barred windows not to keep others out so much as to keep their hoarded treasures safe within.

A wise teacher once said, “Where your treasure is, there will be your heart be also.”

The only magic of money is what it can buy for those we love right now. There is no real security nor power greater than love. What we give our money to and our attention to, should be what we love and not what we are afraid of. As a young man during my war, the long ago Vietnam War, I wrote in a column called “Boon Dock Bards” in the U.S. military publication, The Pacific Stars and Stripes, August 1st, 1970 Vol. 26 No. 212:

THAT WARS WOULD END (Yes, I was shouting, ranting then – still am)

Oh, that men did not kill

And Mother’s did not cry

That wars did not rage

And sons did not die…

That hate had no home

In the hearts of men,

That peace were real

And wars would end.

Oh, for the woman,

Has my name, my heart

That men did not war

And lovers did not part.

But men still War and lovers still part. Neatly folded flags cannot soothe the broken hearts. It is a subject that deserves so much more time and attention than just a poet’s rant. “War, good god y’all, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing – Say it, Say it Again!”

Your friend and fellow traveler,

Fifty-nine years a Vietnam vet,

But I’m a gonna study war no more,
