Cornucopia, Abundant Harvest
For a number of years now my intention or prayer of thanksgiving has gone like this:
“I am so grateful that everything I could ever want or need is already mine and coming to me at just the right time and in just the right way from my loving and infinite source.”
Today is not only Thanksgiving Day in the U.S.A., the country of my birth, but it is the anniversary of the day of my birth into this life. Sixty-eight years ago today, James Clifford and Alene Florence Davidson White had the first of two baby boys in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and they named me David James. My brother Robert Wayne arrived eighteen months later. Not until almost forty years later would I get to name a son of my own, Jonathan David James Wallace. Today will be the first Thanksgiving meal that I have gotten to share with him in several years and that is my special birthday and thanksgiving gift this year.
Mine has been already a life that is a cornucopia of abundance and I have a sneaky feeling that the best is yet to be. And trust me all of this is not because I am “special.” I am no better, no nicer, no more deserving than anyone else. It is not even because I said, “I believe” or “yes.” Good things come to me because the Universe, God, causes Her/His rain to fall on the just and the unjust alike. Despite all the hype in certain religious circles, the Universe has “no picks”, “no favorites”, “no especially chosen children.” But as a truly heavenly or perfect parent loves all His/Her children alike. So this cornucopia thing is all ours to share. Happy Thanksgiving, all you lucky ducks.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
Also birthday boy this Thanksgiving,
So thankful for all the perfect gifts,
