One of the happiest, most upbeat, and encouraging song that I remember hearing as a boy was the Disney song, Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah. How wonderful it is to feel like singing, “My, oh, my, oh, what a wonderful day.” I have known many wonderful days in my life. My friends I hope today is just such a day for you.

I think I have discovered a way to maximize the number of those wonderful days and at the same time minimize the number of not as wonderful ones. It does not require you to change the world just your mind a little. And yes, I hear you saying, “I hate change.” I promised myself that anytime I hear myself or anyone else saying that I hate this or that, I was going to tell myself that I love it.

That is the simple key to making everything and everyday more wonderful – love it. And “loving it” is not just a smart McDonalds ad campaign it is a way of looking at life that maximizes the enjoyment you and I will get out of it. Someone has said, “You only get out, what you put it.” However, we often forget what we knew so well as children that we are responsible for our own joy and happiness, no other, not mommy and daddy, sister and brother, friend or lover – just little ole you and me.

It is important that we get this right and we will eventually, everyone of us, but why waste another moment hating our life, filling it full of ungratefulness and self induced strife. We might well remember even those of us not big Bible fans that, “This is the day the LORD has made and I will be glad in it.” Just one more Bible quote, a question really, and the answer self evident, at least to me:

“Who is the LORD of glory?”

Who else. If you really need a clue re-read the ending of the second full paragraph above – “just little ole you and me.” You just gotta love the simplicity of it all and do have a wonderful day.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White
