As A Man Or Woman Thinks, So They Are
Some years back a long time boyhood friend paid me a huge compliment. He called me a “word smith.” Black smiths work with iron, melting it white hot with a bellows and hammering it and shaping it to whatever form and to whatever purpose they choose. Word smiths work with words which are but pictures of our thoughts. My title today comes from a Proverb that is most usually translated – “As a man thinks in his heart so is he.” But those translations were made in a very patriarchal time when women were by many men devalued as many sadly still are today. There is a line in a song from the Broadway musical Camelot that was made into a movie in which King Arthur says Merlin’s told me not to worry too much about what a woman thinks for they don’t do it very often. Only a silly man not a wise wizard would say such a thing. And one has only to read the play or to see the movie to realize that Queen Guinevere was every bit the thinker and speaker that Arthur or Lance were and yet had no place at the Round Table.
How To Handle A Woman
I get a daily note emailed to me every week day called Notes From The Universe and it always amazes me how spot on those notes are. I share yesterday’s with you:
“David, what if I told you that your every conflict, disappointment, struggle, or challenge with others and yourself, was merely a manifestation of what’s going on within your own thinking. Would you go there first to fix, mend, and allay?
Yeah, you might miss the drama.
Would you, David?”
In case you are wondering about the authorship of such specific and spot on notes, they are composed by my friend, Mike Dooley, but I suspect he actually gets some help from A Ghost Writer, and I mean that in the third person of the Trinity sense – equally inspired as the Proverb I quoted first. I believe all black smiths and word smiths are inspired. The very world “inspiration” means “filled with air, wind, or spirit” even as the word “enthused” means “filled with God.”
We are, everyone of us, filled with thoughts, with words that speak not only to our state of mind but our state of being. We are magnificent beings awakening to our highest potential, building brave new worlds out of our words, thoughts, and deeds. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…” if you were at all wondering Who is behind it all – just little ole you, me, we – God.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
