Masquerade – Why We Carry On This Way
While recording a Mockingbird Song (attached) with the Carpenters called This Masquerade I had the idea to write a poem for this blog about masquerade being the reason why we carry on this way – simply not knowing who we are or who anybody else really is. What follows is the result of that effort. I hope you like it.

Masquerade – Why We Carry On This Way
Just look in the mirror into familiar eyes
See then if even you can now see through
What so long you practiced till even you
Have come to believe your own disguise.
In a favorite of mine movie,
The Long Kiss Goodnight,
The amnesiac heroine has a secret
That draws her back into the fight.
This is all our own story
For we indeed have come here too
To dispel our own inner darkness
And all disguises to see through.
Look deep beneath the surface
First of your own then those you know
The truth of who you, me, we all are
Is bound in us and determined to show.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
