Some One In The Crowd

Someone In The Crowd

That is the title of the second song on the La La Land Movie Soundtrack. It is about young performers hoping that each time they audition or perform that there is someone out there in the crowd that is going to discover what a wonderful talent they are and promote their career and make their dreams come true. There is only one person that can discover you and make your dreams come true and that is Y O U. Not mama or daddy, not brother not sister; not another lovely rich lady or another powerful handsome Mister,
just Big Beautiful You. You are the someone standing out in the crowd and the one up front strutting your stuff. You are the author, composer, choreographer, sound, light, and scenery person, the director and the producer of the play called Y O U. Win, place, or show the race and the production are all on you.

Now that we know who is completely and entirely responsible for your success or failure here is the good news. You and I cannot fail. Worse case senario – we get a bit part this time around or an apprenticeship doing scenery or costumes for others, but it is all practice for a bigger, better part to come. Somewhere it is written, “Be not weary in well doing for next season you will make it if you do not quit.” That is the true true. We live in a benevolent Universe, all talk and evidence to the contrary not withstanding. The Universe always says, Yes. That old book where I got the quote above also says, “All the promises are, Yes, Yes.” It works whether we believe it or not. We get what we asked for, what we obsesses about, what we really want. The Universe is just as ready and willing to give us poverty and sickness as it is to give us abundance and health. The Universe is always listening, eager, and happy to send to us our heart’s desire. But I never asked for this life, you say. Didn’t you? If not you, who impersonated you well enough to fool the Universe into thinking this life was exactly what you requested right down to the tacky color of your first purchased shirt, dress, or automobile.

But I asked for Mister or Miss Right where are they? As we used to say in the children’s game. “Tag, you are it.” But I am not happy with the way my life is going. No problem all you need to do is put in a change order request and watch your life change. One of my favorite movies, Mister Destiny, with James Beluchi illustrates the way I think it works. The Christmas classic, A Wonderful Life, also. I can keep naming movies, books, and songs till I find one you know. But you know this already deep inside – that you asked for it, had it coming, are responsible. Why did you request all these problems? Are you some kind of glutton for punishment? We all have been guilty of that at one time or another in our lives, and guilty of expecting some one in the crowd to make our dreams come true but knowing all along it was our job and hating ourselves for not doing a better job of it.

Love yourself and let go all that loathing. It only causes misery for you and those who love you and also garbles the requests that you send out and blocks good things coming to you. Like sunshine and rain are meant for all so is all the other good stuff. And you can make it happen, you alone possess the keys to the treasure house, Captain Kangaroo.

David White
