A Memorable Day

On this day twenty seven years ago I met a young man that I had waited over twenty years to get to meet and that young man has changed me and my life probably more than anyone I have ever met or ever will. On this day April the third, 1990 Jonathan David James Wallace White, blinking came into the light and the rest is as they say history or his story. I am so glad and grateful that I get to play the recurring role of his dad in this continuing story and that the lovely Linda Lee Stokes is cast as his lovely and loving mom, and that the talented and vivacious Emily Elaine White starred, if ever too briefly, as his adoring older sister. There are a whole host of cast and characters that have helped the story along from those with lots of lines and scenes to those many with smaller parts and the hundreds of extras. No accounting of this epic drama/comedy/tragedy/fairytale would be complete without at least a nod to the two Johns who with Jon himself make up the dynamic trio, The Three Johns.

Early on in Jon’s story (All those names and he picks an initial to go by but then he does prefer keeping it simple and did like The Men In Black movie as a boy – Agent J) his mom thought that he needed several more brothers and or sisters. She coming from a larger family thought that family dynamic preferred while I having only one blood brother and remembering that more often than not that he and I both wished we were an only child, saw it a bit differently. But with great expense both financially and even more emotionally we conceived two siblings for him who both opted for immediate angel status rather than an adventure in space and time. The Universe is seems had a different plan, the Three Johns. Jay has had and still has many close friends, Matt and Justin to name two very important ones, but I think the two Johns more than any others have been filling the parts we thought those two reluctant angels would play. To keep the Johns straight or as Jay would say to keep it simple I refer to them as Big John and Red John. The are both big and important players in his life and I hope they always will be.

Happy Birthday, Son, and as Mr. Spock of the original Star Trek crew would say, “Live long and prosper.” It is the hope of your daddy’s heart that you out live me by many years but treat yourself well and prepare for a long haul because I am shooting for one hundred and fifteen. And still of whatever dreams or desires that I have ever had or ever will one of the finest and best has already come true in you. Hip hip hurrah, hip hip hurrah. Let’s hear it for the J man.

Your friend, fellow traveler and Jay’s Dad,
David White
