What You Believe Is True, But There May Be A Higher Truth
Boyzone recorded a wonderful song featured in the movie Notting Hill called No Matter What. The first lines are:
“No matter what they tell us
No matter what they do
No matter what the teach us
What we believe is true.
No matter what they call us
However they attack
No matter where they take us
We’ll find our own way back.”
The words of that song express a very important truth namely that what we think or believe is our reality, our truth. If you think you are weak, powerless, and unable that is your reality. But if you think you can, by God, you can. And that leads to a Higher Truth about a Higher You than most of us are all that well acquainted with. We are more acquainted with our conscious self, the tip of the iceberg as it were. But beneath the facade, that puny little bit of us sticking out above the surface, is the great and limitless potential of Who and Whose we truly are. Our little self has believed every negative, self limiting thing anyone has ever said including ourself about us. It is a shame the terrible things that parents, teachers, siblings, other family, and playmates say to children and even more terrible all the negative self talk that we use on ourselves. The most terrible thing of all is that negative comments are far more likely to be believed and played over and over again in our minds than positive ones. Why is that? Because there truly is an enemy of our souls. And it is not some red horned and fork tailed devil but our own ego. Yes, Pogo, we have discovered the enemy and it is us. Ego does not like us very much and tries his/her very best to keep us from discovering Who and Whose we really are for that sure and certain knowledge would mean the end of ego’s power over us.
The higher truth is that we come from God, are part of God and He/She is us and that God is with us whether we are coming or going or staying put. We are here to discover Who and Whose we are and since the evidence and all the clues reside in us we are ultimately going to find out and thereby find our way home. All the lies our own ego and the egos of others can concoct cannot keep us forever from this higher truth. We may indeed see through a glass darkly now but we shall see face to face.
The song I quoted above goes on to say:
“I can’t deny what I believe
I can’t be what I’m not
I know I’ll love forever
I know know matter what.
If only tears were laughter
If only night was day
If only prayers were answered
Then we would hear God say
No matter what they tell you
No matter what they do
No matter what the teach you
What you believe is true.
And I will keep you safe and strong
And sheltered from the storm
No matter where it’s barren
Our dream is being born…
Great truth, higher truth, is in that song. I hope many will listen to No Matter What over and over again till its message sinks deep into our consciousness and becomes our truth and our reality. You are loved no matter what, always have been, and always will be for you are a part of God’s heart and He/She/We yours.
