It Does A Body Good

Often I hear words that touch my heart and to make them my own sometimes I change a word or two to make them a bit more meaningful to me. I was raised in a very narrow religious tradition with a Holy Book and even a very specific translation at that was held to be the only true and inspired Word of God. One scary verse said that anyone who added to or took away from this holy book would have the curses of the book added to him and his name removed from the book of life. I do not believe that any longer or that any book is the only true and inspired Word of God. It does a body good to question all such claims and the motives of all who desire to control your thinking with their particular interpretation of words once written. The best most useful words are not written in stone or on pages of paper but in hearts and minds. Not by might nor by power (nor by oft quoted words) but by my Spirit says the Lord. Well, I am sure that has riled some book worshippers out there but my intent is always to refrain from opposing or harming anyone but to allow others to have their own experience, to see life in all things and to honor it as if it were my own. Inspiring words are to be found everywhere and not just in ancient books. It does a body good to listen with both ears and the shape of two ears together is a heart so we should listen as well with our hearts.

I recently heard in the movie, The Shack, the line: “It does a body good to let the healing waters flow.” As is my custom I modified those words slightly – It does a body good to let the cleansing healing waters flow. Tears are precious so much so that Spirit in The Shack collects them and then uses them to water new growth and there by to keep the waters flowing. The four basic elements revered from time in memorial are earth, water, wind, and fire. Our bodies are made of those elements mostly water, a little earth, with the Divine supplying the wind and the fire. We think we are so smart investigating even to some understanding of DNA and Gene mapping but we are still discovering the mysteries of the breath of life and the spark, the charge of electrical fire, that is Life. Why, we still do not have that great a handle on the dirt and water that make up most of our physical bodies even.

We understand that tears wash our eyes and as such have some healing properties but there is way more to letting the cleansing healing waters flow than I think we realize. I have remarked that a book or movie that does not make me laugh and or cry is not worth investing that much time. Scientists are still discovering all the wonderful cleansing, healing, recreational, and restorative properties that are in our laughter and our tears. Living water means flowing water and when the water stops flowing life ceases. There are tears of sadness and tears of joy. And, yes, I have laughed so hard that I cried and been so touched as to cry tears of joy.

It does indeed do a body good to let the cleansing healing waters flow.
