It is our interaction with those we meet along the way that helps us most to discover the true identity of the hero or heroine in our story. The seeming randomness our lives often masks the importance of even the briefest of contacts but like the characters in a well-written novel each of the characters brings a least one clue to move the story along.
Some believe life is totally random and that our attempts to make some sense out of it through religion, philosophy, or even mathematics is just the way our mind works – trying to find patterns in the chaos. Others believe we are divine entities who somewhat bored with our divine duties have constructed this time and space fun park to act out our fantasies. Wait a minute , Buster, you might say, this life is no dream, no fantasy. Well, whose fault is that I might reply. Are you still blaming your parents, your boss, your wife or husband, your kids, Isis, President Obama for your unhappy life? Pogo, the comic strip said it best, “We have met the enemy and he is us.”
If you are unhappy with your particular dream you have no one to blame but yourself. If your dream is a nightmare perhaps it is time to wake up just enough to redirect your dream making it a lucid dream. The people in your dream are there because you want them to be. There is something you wanted to investigate more thoroughly this time around but as often is the case we sometimes get caught up in some trauma and or drama and forget that we came here to have a fun adventure.
Did you ever plan a fun vacation that took a bad turn and became a disaster? Well, many people think that their lives are like that and still they continue to perpetuate the misery by buying into the “Someone or something is doing this to me” mistake when the reality is “You are doing it to you.” We have all heard the expression, “Life is what you make it.” Children often are not as jaded by a sour outlook on life. Given a rainy day and a muddy yard many adults would think, “Oh, yuck, (or for those with a wider vocabulary perhaps a rhyming word) what a mess.” While the optimistic child might look out the window and say, “Yippee, mud pies.”
This life is what you make it you ole creator you. If you are singing, ” I have to admit it could be better. It couldn’t get much worse.” Then make it better. Who’s stopping you? Make peace with yourself. Don’t expect President Hillary or President Donald to change your world. Only you can do that.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
