From a very young age I have wanted to be a writer. I remember as a child repeating the words as a mantra, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me.” But words did hurt me, and heal me, and inspire me to be the very best version of myself. Oh, I am not that always, few if any of us are but words can help us as well as hurt us. I chose theencouragingword.co as my web domain because I want more than anything to write encouraging words. Heaven knows our hearts and heads are way too full of discouraging words we have heard and too often from our own lips. I believe words have the power to set us free or make us prisoners. May we all choose the best and the highest words to live by.
Someone said that sometimes I sound like a preacher and at other times like I do not even believe in God. I once tried to be a preacher but I no longer believe in “the God of the box” I believe in “the God of the every widening circle.” I decided some years ago to “discard any belief that is no longer serving me.” Any religion or belief that does not allow you to grow needs to be discarded in my opinion but hey I could be wrong and often am. Take a look at the poem and see what you think.

THE POWER OF WORDS
By David J. White
Some think words are magic
Like the casting of a spell
But I think the true meaning of words
Is in the story that they tell.
Which comes first the thought or the deed?
“In the beginning was the Word or Thought”
All that is, has been, or ever shall be, is in the Mind of God
What wondrous creation He and we have wrought.
Did you ever wonder
About the power in a name?
Jesus merely called out “Lazarus”
And out of the grave he came.
My name is “Beloved”
It is a Family name
Our Father has many children but One Beloved Son
We collectively are that Son and He loves us all the same.
“And the Word of the LORD came unto me”
And with all my heart I did rejoice
For as He spoke I remembered Who and Whose I am.
I recognized that Voice.
Some think words are magic
Perhaps even I did as a youth
But words are the language of our thoughts
Pointing out the way, the life, and the truth.

P.S.
Do you see the little man with three hats,
The two on his head and the one he’s about to squish?
So much of this life is perspective
We see only what we wish.
