I met a young man over the holiday break that was all excited about attending the University of Alabama this fall. I warned him to stay away from those Southern Belles and with a smile he replied, “No promises.” His mother told me later that his younger sister was not a morning person but that her son always woke up singing.
I love to sing. I used to sing, “It takes a worried man to sing a worried song. I’m worried now but I won’t be worried long.” But more often I sing because I am happy. I love all kinds of songs and even sad songs serve a real purpose. They allow us to sing our blues away. Listen to the words and you will see most often even sad songs have a happy ending or at least raise the vibration of the person to a higher level.
My brother loves the songs of Karen Carpenter and I have been practicing all of The Carpenters Hit Singles with the hope of making a CD of Cover Songs for him and anyone else who might like to hear it. Karen sings a sad one in I’ll Say Good Bye To Love but even in that song there is hope. On a CD I recorded this past Fall I included a song sung by Josh Groban called Broken Vow. It is a very sad song but is quite beautiful and has I think a wonderful message about true love. The young man has lost his lover to another and sings, “I’ll let you go. I’ll let you fly. Why do I keep on asking on asking, “Why?” I’ll let you go now that I’ve found a way to keep somehow more than a broken vow.”
I have a few copies of the CD called theencouragingword.co David White A to almost Z.
The songs I sing to wonderful background music are in order:
Amarillo By Morning
Broken Vow
Come Back To Me Again
Danny Boy
Handyman
Home To Stay
Night and Day
You Look So Good In Love
Up On The Roof
The first five people to send me a name and address will receive a free autographed copy. Anyone after that will have to wait for a new batch to be made and will have to pay a nominal price that will include shipping. I will announce the first five free ones were sent and start a list of anyone interested in a CD for $10.
Someone ask me recently why I didn’t start my writing and music careers sooner and I replied I was doing other things none of which I regret because they brought me to where I am today. If you are tempted to think a sixty-five year old man starting a career as a Writer/Speaker/Singer/Song Writer is having “Visions of Grandeur”. Oh, contrare mi amor (on the contrary, my love) I am having visions of glory. On my drive back to my “day job” – my work assignment in Laramie, Wyoming as I drove west the sun rose behind me and was shining brightly in both side mirrors and the rear mirror. Before I could voice a complaint I heard another voice saying, “If you get what you are asking for you will be up front with bright lights shining in your face. You better get used to it.” I just smiled a thousand watt smile.
Some people think the birds sing every morning to welcome the sun and a new day. The young man I met does too and so do I. To all you singers out there and you late sleepers too have a happy Monday morning.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
