Republicans and Democrats
Republicans, of which I was one till the late nineteen eighties, emphasized the term Republic, because they really do not trust the will of the people, fearing they will make a mess of things and so representatives should make the decisions for them. Democrats, of which I have been one for the second half of my life, empathize the term Democracy, because they do trust the will of the people and think their representatives should carrying out the will of the people at large and not that of corporations, the elite, or the wealthy. These are substantially different views on how our Democratic Republic should be run.
President Donald Trump uses the word Democrat like a dirty word, though until he ran for President in 2016 he voted and supported mostly Democrats. I posted this clipping from a People Magazine interview with Donald Trump in 1998 in late September to show what Trump thought of Republicans voters at least back then.

I think if the Democrats pull off a big blue wave and take over control of the House and Senate and perhaps the White House in 2028, that I will watch and see if they are true to there word to restore our Democratic institutions and enact legislation to “idiot proof” and limit Presidential overreach. By that I mean codifying what we expect of our Chief Executive, Secretary of Defense, and write an enforceable Code of Ethics for the Supreme Court, limiting their terms to eighteen years with mandatory retirement at seventy-five (that might be a good rule for all politicians and a two term limit) also increase the number of the Supreme Court to fifteen one for each Federal District. There are quite a number of changes that need to be made and if they are not I plan to spend whatever years I have after that as an Independent, voting for change.
Republics and Democracies historically do not last for more than couple of hundred years and sadly they usually become some variation of dictatorships. Julius Caesar’s rise to power in Rome is a the classic example. I hope even yet that our Democratic Republic proves to be the exception and that our Constitution with its checks and balances proves strong enough to survive Trump’s attempt to dismantle it. Tomorrow’s election results and how he responds to them will give us an indication.
If you have not already – do vote. And may the will of the people decide the course we take from here.
