Religion
On Halloween, I thought it appropriate to give politics a break and spend a few minutes discussing my take on religion, another of those three subjects we are supposed to avoid (i.e. Politics, Religion, and Sex). Halloween actually began as a Celtic religious ceremony. When the Romans brought Christianity to the British Isles they found the people there were unwilling to give up their own religious traditions so they incorporated them into the Roman brand of Christianity.
Roman Christianity was from the start a conglomerate of all the religions that were known in the Roman Empire. Virgin birth, baptism, miracles, rising from the dead, and even Son of God are all borrowed from religions that predate Christianity. Did you ever wonder why every religious believer claims that their religion is the one true religion?
Today’s picture quote explains why the framers of our U.S. Constitution said plainly that there was to be no state religion here, but that everyone could worship or not as they see fit. That still works for me, how about you?
