So Much Crap

I recall a line from a Simon and Garfunkel song that goes: “When I think back on all the crap I learned in high school, it’s a wonder I can think at all.” First let me say to those relatively few scientists, engineers, and mathematicians that perhaps use Algebra on a regular basis, good for you. However, the times that I have had to calculate the value of x since I left high school Algebra One and Algebra Two have been none. That is less than one and not greater than zero.

Politicians, doctors, dentists, lawyers, salesmen and teachers are always telling us what we need and amazingly it always involves their receiving a fee for their services. There seems to be some vested interest in that advice. I left preachers off the above list, them too. One of my all time favorites quotes comes from a Mississippi politician who said, “Whenever I hear a man saying what a good Christian he is, I put my hand on my wallet.”

There is so much disingenuous information out there, not fake news, just crap. I love my adopted state, Texas, whereas another adopted Texan once proudly said, “I was not born in Texas, but I got here as soon as I could.” Still as a Tennessee boy I learned the answer to two often asked questions, “Why do Texans brag so much and why do so many of them have brown eyes?” The answer, yep, you guessed it, because they are filled boots to cowboy hat full of crap.

Why else would Texas politicians spend millions and millions of dollars trying to make us believe their crap doesn’t stink. It surely does and one does not need Algebra to figure that one out.
