What Is It?
My dad carried on of these in his right front pants pocket? What with most everyone paying for everything with credit cards these days there is not much need of change or a place to keep it in your pocket. That’s right the once handy little device is a pocket coin purse for keeping track of your small change. Time was when dad would just give this little gizmo a squeeze and dole out our weekly allowance to my brother and I – one shiny dime a piece. Not much you say, well it was enough to buy a large Butterfinger or Baby Ruth candy bar, our respective favorites.
And if you tried to get more than the allowed dime all dad had to do was release his squeeze and the little change purse would pinch the finger trying to pilfer more allowance than allowed. I still recall when dad raised our allowance to one quarter a week. That was a big raise. Dad always encouraged us to save a little out of each allowance. My brother was better at saving than I. I finally learned that the only way to ever have anything is to not spend it all. Even saving a little change will insure that you always have a nest egg or a cash stash to fall back on.
