Staying Busy
One of the steps to not becoming overwhelmed by fear, anger, hate, and misery (the dark side) in addition to keeping our minds focused on the good things is staying busy. Boredom and listlessness are very debilitating and draining. Using our hands and raising a sweat helps us get out of our heads and as a great comic line in one of my favorite movies goes “that is a neighborhood we need to avoid” especially if we are half empty cup or somebody stole my cup people.
How do we stay busy? It isn’t really hard, just look around you for little things that need to be done. Make a Things To Do List and check them off as you accomplish each task. Not only will staying busy keep us from dwelling on what we do not want in our lives, in addition the feeling of accomplishment that we feel with each completed task will lift our spirits.
A manager I once had gave me some of the best advice I ever got after promoting me to a job that was something I had never done before. He said, “ Control the Controllables and do not stress about the rest.” There is always enough we can control to keep us busy,
The saying goes, “Idle hands and an idle mind are the devils tools and workshop respectively.” Let us keep our minds focused on the good things in our lives and our hands busy doing what we can. That is the best we can do.
