True to my promise to post a picture a Gina for Texas yard sign when it arrived, here it is. The last time Texas had a Democrat governor was in 1991. Her name was Ann Richards, and though she only served one four year term, I believe she was one of the best governors Texas has ever had.

The latest poll show Gina closing the gap between herself and current Republican Governor Greg Abbott.

Fearing that Republicans might lose control of the U.S. House of Representatives in the mid-term elections this fall, Greg Abbott and the Republican-controlled state house proposed the unprecedented move of redistricting mid-decade. Redistricting “Gerrymandering” historically only took place after the ten year census which the Constitution requires to determine how many Representatives each state is allowed due to their population. The dictionary defines gerrymander:

By gerrymandering early the Texas Republicans hoped to pick up five additional Republican seats in the House of Representatives to assure continued Republican control even though the party controlling the Presidency usually loses seats in the mid-term elections. There is some evidence that gerrymandering based on high   Hispanic voter turnout for Trump in 2024 might have been a mistake. Hispanic voters like many voters cast their votes according to the old political truth regarding the most important issue, “It’s the economy, Stupid!”

Much has been said about changes in both the Republican and Democratic political parties and how far they have gone from their roots. Gina and James are talking about bread and butter issues as the Republican Presidential platform did in 1956.

Texas is now home of the world’s first trillionaire Elon Musk, although after losing 350 billion recently he may no longer be a trillionaire. Some think, and I am one, that we should not allow billionaires and millionaires, let alone a trillionaire to control our politics and our economy. We have already spent more on an unnecessary war with Iran that could have been better spent on healthcare and to borrow a well worn phrase making American great again for many Americans and not just a privileged few.

I encourage everyone to listen to the actual words of the candidates’s proposals to make things better for the people.

Gina and James have my vote and we’re hoping to turn Texas blue this fall and the Congress, both houses.
