A Tribute To Miss Marcia

In 1962 she became the replacement host of Chanel Three’s Romper Room which soon after changed it’s name to Funtime and aired for another fifteen years. Countless children in the Chattanooga viewing area were positively influenced by this lovely woman who taught children manners and how to treat everyone with dignity and respect.

Captain Kangaroo and later Sesame Street and Mister Roger’s may have had larger audiences, but local children’s television hosts and hostesses like Miss Marcia also served a real purpose in many of our young lives. These shows and the people who produced and presented them had no religious or political agendas. Their aim was to equip the younger generation with the skills to in the words of the U.S. Constitution provide for a more perfect union, helping to see others not as enemies, but people like ourselves with dignity and deserving of our respect.

Thank you Miss Marcia for teaching us manners and how to treat people.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David James White
