Play Me
The most remembered words are usually attached to melodies. The same, I think, is true of the most remembered melodies.
Of all the multitude of songs that I have committed to memory none expresses that thought better than Neil Diamond’s hit song Play Me with its hauntingly beautiful chorus:
“You are the sun
I am the moon
You are the words
I am the tune
Play me.”
I am a word guy, but even I know that “Music hath powers to soothe the savage beast” and to give words more power to teach with a far larger and longer lasting reach.
I will be brief today, hoping you will take the time to listen to Neil.
