Never Enough

Sadly, many even young people these days seem to have lost their passion, their lust for life. It is perhaps the great secret of living a long, a happy, and a fulfilling life – this figuring out what we want and going for it, maintaining a hunger for more. So many people live with loss, regret, and overwhelming depression because they figure opportunity has passed them by and life has lost its purpose, it’s passion.

I have often quoted the lines of a song that George Beverly Shea recorded called The Love of God. The third stanza is said to have been found scrawled on the wall of a cell in an insane asylum written there by a Jewish man in some moment of clarity.

George Beverly Shea added a few spoken words to the end of his recorded version of the song that have stayed with me for years, “Out there beyond the horizon, there’s more, there’s more.”

My preferred name for my higher power is “the Universe” because those two words describe a God who is “all in all” a circle that takes us all in – way bigger than some Jewish, Christian or any other religious tradition. If you have lost your passion for life may I suggest that your world, your life, your love, your God is too small. Open your heart and your mind to adventure, to explore, for out there beyond the horizon- there’s more, there’s more.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David James White
