One Boy, One Girl
I love today’s song and I hope it shows. Some people have enough trouble getting their minds around the concept of love and even for many of those who do the idea of love at first sight is a bridge too far. But I don’t think so, for I knew love the first time that I laid eyes on my wife, held my baby girl in my arms for the first time and my baby boy ten years later. It just does not take that long to make up your heart and mind when you see your dreams come true right before your very eyes.
Years ago a young Bing Crosby recorded a song that said, “Did you every see a dream walking, well I did…Did you ever find heaven right in your arms, saying ‘I love you, I do.’ Well, the heaven in my arms, that was walk-in’ and talkin’ was you.”
Sunday I spent a wonderful day driving, walking, and talking with my son as he showed me sixty acres of rustic undeveloped land that he recently purchased in East Texas. His love of the land reminds me so much of my dad. We had breakfast on the drive there and stopped for lunch at a Mexican restaurant in the small town of Newton, Texas near his property, on the way back. Like my dad, Jay would not allow me to pay for a thing. He said that he would forever owe me for all the money I spent on him growing up. I had to correct him and I told him that what he and his lovely wife gave me last August fifth made us forever even. They made me a Papa when they brought Emma Grace into the world. I know it was love at first sight for them and it certainly was for me, my wife and Emma’s other set of grandparents. I already have way over a hundred pictures of Emma on my phone and each new one thrills my heart and causes me to fall deeper and deeper in debt to and in love with that precious little person. I will be trying to pay off the debt of love I owe to her for the rest of my life. And I intend to live long enough for her to know what a treasure she really is to me.
