Don’t Worry Be Happy

In one of my favorite movies, Nobody’s Fool, an old man played by Paul Newman who has been a poor dad tries to be a better grandpa. He is watching his grandson and leaves him alone for a few minutes and the boy gets very scared. Later trying to make up for his lack of attention the grandpa gives the boy a pocket watch and shows him the second hand and tells him that one trip around is a minute, then teaches him that being brave is all about being brave for just one minute and then another.

Some of us have become so accustomed to being sad that perhaps we need to start off just trying to be happy for one minute then another. The idea is to ease into it and before long discover that being brave and being happy is who we were made to be.

Jesus told the boys, “Don’t let the world press you into its mold.” That is because he knew that we were meant for bigger and better things. Want to figure out what all those wide and wonderful things are? We have only to be kind, brave, true, and happy for one minute to discover who and whose we truly are and all that we have coming will come to us come to us as surely as birds of a feather flock together. It is the law of attraction. Contrary to another often cited cliche, everything does not come to those who wait, but only to those who prepare themselves to receive it. So don’t be scared or worried – be kind, brave, happy, and true, be you and you will see the world changing all around you to fit into your mold.
