Don’t Worry Baby
When I was in my mid-twenties and going through a particularly stressful time the words of Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys came to me like an echo from on high: “Don’t worry, Baby, everything will turn out all right.” I was comforted and learned to lean on that assurance from my higher best self that no matter the dark and stormy night that the storm will always pass and with it the darkness will fade into the light of a new day.
Another song lyric comes to mind, “It takes a worried mind to sing a worried song. I’m worried now, but I won’t be worried long.” Worry is, I believe, a big waste of time. I sincerely believe that the best cure to worry is maintaining an attitude of gratitude.
“When I’m worried and I can’t sleep
I count my blessings instead of sheep
And I fall asleep counting my blessings.”
The next time a big storm comes up and the possibility seems too real that your boat will be overwhelmed by the winds and the waves, I hope that you will hear over the noise of the storm, “Don’t worry, Baby, everything will turn out alright.”

David White
