Meet Samantha 1904 – Chapter 2

“Actions Speak Louder Than Words” is what Samantha’s sample will read when she is finished crocheting it. When I was a boy one of my dad’s favorite saying was “Do as I say, not as I do.” I recall thinking to myself, “What you do speaks so loudly, I can hardly hear what you say.” For all the spin and political maneuvering I still believe it to be true that actions speak louder than words.

We, every one of us, like to be told that we are loved and important in someone else’s life, but how much more we need to be shown not just in word but in deed. We are like Thomas and the “ Show me” people of Missouri in that regard. When it comes to love don’t just say it, prove it.

True friendships are love relationships and love costs us something. Instead of worrying about how much a gift costs in terms of dollars and cents we would better understand its value in terms of time. What is the price tag we put on an hour of our time? I just recently exceeded the three score and ten year life span mentioned in the Bible by three years. I am the age that my father was when he died, seventy-three. The two candidates most likely to win their political party’s nomination for President are even farther past seventy than I. President Biden is eighty-one and former President Trump is seventy-seven. Both living on “borrowed time” but none of us knows how much time we have left in this adventure in time and space. How we invest our time speaks loudest of where our hearts truly are, what we truly treasure.

As a writer, speaker, singer/songwriter, and teacher words are very important to me, but I know that what I do is far more important than what I say, speak, sing, or teach.
