If You’re Happy And You Know It

One of my favorite children’s song is today’s selection. It may seem like an over simplification, but it is true, “If you’re happy and you know it, your face will surely show it.” Sad things befall us all, but in the same way that we should not let anyone else be the gate keeper of our dreams we should not allow anyone or anything to rob us of our joy nor deny us our inalienable right to the pursuit of happiness.

What makes you happy? It is a terrible burden to lay upon someone else the responsibility for your happiness. It is no one else’s job to do for you what only you can do for yourself. We can share our happiness with others, but only they have the power to make themselves happy. The same is true for us.

How thrilled parents are when a child learns to find happiness and fulfillment in themselves. Jesus once said that the kingdom of heaven is within you. In part of my daily mantra I express it like this: “I go within. I mirror you. I admire you. I worship you.” If we are open to allow the Universe to flow in and through us we come to realize Jesus words are true – heaven and happiness are inside us as are hell and unhappiness. We choose which to focus upon.

A more adult version of today’s children’s song is “Don’t Worry Be Happy.” One line says, “When you worry your face will frown and that will bring everybody down.”

If you’re happy and you know it, your face will surely show it. Smile.
