Charlotte’s Web – Chapter 3

Today Wilbur has quite an adventure instigated by the silly goose encouraging him to escape his captivity. there is quite a bit of excitement at the Zuckerman farm as Mrs. Zuckerman sees Wilbur outside his pen underneath the apple tree and yells to her husband and the hired man, “Pig’s out.” The chase is on, but soon the wise farmer with a pail of warm slop and a kind voice has little Wilbur willingly following him back to his pen.

The temptation explore the wide world is quite a lure even to little pigs it would seem. But Wilbur soon discovers that he is not ready for the wider world, but quite content to stay in the confines of his cozy little pen where Fern comes to see him almost every day and he has made friends of all the barn animals.

Even the most seasoned travelers, one of whom Wilbur is definitely not, as Sir Walter Scott’s poem says enjoy coming home after wandering on a foreign strand.
