Stay Focused

Sometimes things or we ourselves seem out of place. Sometimes things happen for no apparent reason that disturb us and upset us. I recall the words of a girl’s softball team coach determined to keep his girl’s focused after an error or the other team getting a hit. He said, “Shake it off.” Dwelling on misfortune or mistakes can quickly turn drama into trauma and make a momentary bad situation so much worse.

Yesterday, I came out of a local restaurant with my wife to find that someone had broken a window out of my truck and rummaged through the inside, taking nothing. It took us over and hour when we got home to clean the glass out of the back seat and tape a piece of plastic over the hole where the rear door window behind the driver’s seat had been.

My wife was very upset and I was not happy about the incident either, but no damage was done that cannot easily be fixed. I have already arranged to have someone come out on Tuesday to replace the glass. I am determined not to dwell on momentary misfortune but to enjoy life to the fullest.

Sheep in a shop are indeed out of place, but something we can look back on and even smile if not laugh about. Jesus once said in so many words, “Do not worry about tomorrow, there is enough trouble today.” Good coaches still advise us to shake off adversity and to not lose focus.
