Cold Even For Houston
The outside temperature as I write this is sixteen degrees and feels like one degree. My friend in Wisconsin just texted me that it is ten below zero in Mineral Point. Most of the country is experiencing low temps as a winter storm dips down from Canada and moves across the country.
It is a truism that older people are preoccupied with the weather, but this kind of cold snap gets everybody’s attention, young and old. There are at least two very distinct opinions on cold weather expressed in classic Christmas songs, and I quote:
“The weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful.”
“Just hear those sleigh bells jing-a-ling, ring-ting-tingling too
It’s lovely weather for a sleigh ride together with you.”
It isn’t the weather but our attitude toward it like it is in so many situations that determines our outlook on life. I always try to keep positive and hopeful attitude, yet even optimists have to accept realities.
Like dressing for the weather we have to adapt to things as they really are not just the way we wish they were, but even that is seldom as bad as it may first appear. Quick judgement are often misjudgments.
To paraphrase, “But most of all when temperatures suddenly rise or fall, I wish you love.”
