The Way Before Us
In the story of Hansel And Gretel the children are taken into the deep dark woods, but are wise enough to scatter bread crumbs hoping to follow the trail back home. Their plan goes a-rye, as plans often do, when birds devoured the bread crumbs erasing the clues that might guide them home. I believe encouraging words are often clues to help us in finding our way, both ourselves and others.
Sadly there are still so many hungry birds around to quickly snatch up those encouraging words or scatter them to the wind till the way home is dark and unclear. Fortunately, the birds, the wind, the rain, and even the deep dark woods cannot forever extinguish the light we carry inside us that forever points the way before us.
As a child like many of my peers I was taught to sing, “This little light of mind, I’m gonna let it shine.” Light dispels dark thoughts and makes our way bright before us. Be encouraged, my friends, we are the children of light, and no deep dark woods nor night however long can ever keep us from finding our way.
