You Asked For It

Perhaps you no longer remember where or when you did, but rest assured that if it is coming to you that you did indeed ask for it. These words came to me out of the blue some years ago:

“I am so glad and grateful that everything that I could ever want or need is coming to me at just the right time and in just the right way from my loving and infinite source.”

Just logically speaking we really only have two choices either all of life is random chance or there is indeed a rhyme and a reason behind it all. I tried for twenty or so years, in the middle of my life, to buy the random chance theory, but it just does not hold water for me and I understand the belief that it is but a trick of our brains this seeing order in the chaos, but the evidence for me is just too overwhelming.

How do I explain pain and suffering? Simply as I can, simple as the cartoon strip Pogo put it: “We have discovered the enemy and it is us.”

In trying to explain the lack in our lives the poet/prophet/preacher said: “You have not because you ask not.” If that be true, and I believe it is, it logically follows that what we have is because we asked for it.

Learning to see whatever the Universe presents as a gift intended to answer a particular want or need in our lives is to me the best way to live. As children, one of the first questions we learned to as is “Why?” by which we usually mean, “Why is this happening to me?” Few have the heart to answer us, but our own heart will if we are quiet enough to hear that still small voice: “Because you asked.”

“Whatsoever you ask believing you shall receive.” “Call unto me and I will answer you.” These are not some lines spoken by some household god of some remote desert tribe but they are the sure and certain words of our highest best self who knows what we want and need even before we ask and always sends it along at just the right time and in the right way. And why? – just because we ask.
