Waving Through A Window
The second born brother of the famed comedy troupe The Marx Brothers was Harpo Marx and in their act his comedy was mostly, visual but then Groucho and Chico had more than enough to say, even lesser known brothers Zeppo and Gummo when they spoke on stage or screen. Harpo’s sound contributions to the act were mostly honking horns and beautiful renditions on the harp. He could talk though and did in an interview with fellow comedian George Burns in 1948.
Harpo and his life-long wife Susan Fleming had adopted four children so George ask him in the interview how many children he planned to adopt, he answered, “I’d like to adopt as many children as I have windows in my house. So when I leave for work, I want a kid in every window, waving goodbye.”
There is a wonderful song, several of them actually in the recently released movie Dear Evan Hansen called Waving From A Window. I will let Ben Platt finish the blog today.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
