Dear Evan Hansen

Dear Evan Hansen

Last year when I with so many others was off work due to the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown, I had a lot of time to stream movies and TV shows. One two season show that I binge watched was Netflix’s, the Politician, with Ben platt playing the leading role. Gwyneth Paltrow played his rich doting mom, with a large cast of well-known supporting actors and actresses. Ben plays a young man in high school with political aspirations and the savvy to always get what he wants. It was a very timely series and Ben’s skill as an actor was well displayed.

A couple of months ago when I first saw the preview for the movie, Dear Evan Hansen, I knew I wanted to see Ben in that one as soon as it was out. It came to the local theater near where I am currently working in Nebraska this weekend. I saw it yesterday. I needed a box of tissues as it moved me to tears many times, but I had not even one so crying in the dark I made much use of my sweater sleeve to wipe my tears.

I had not realized that Dear Evan Hansen had several years ago won a Tony for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and a Best Actor Tony for Ben Platt and a Best Featured Actress Tony for the actress who played his mom in the play, Rachel Bay Jones.

I hope everyone who loves a good story, great acting, and musicals will invest the two hours and seventeen minutes to watch this wonderful movie. Be sure to bring plenty of tissues as you will be glad you did. I highly recommend this “coming-of-age stage musical with music and lyrics by Benjamin Pasewalk and Justin Paul and book by Steven Levenson.” The movie is co-produced by Marc Platt, Ben’s dad, and Adam Siegel.

Now playing at a theater near you – Dear Evan Hansen.
