The Sound Of Rain On The Roof

I was pleasantly awakened several times through the night by the sound on rain on the roof. I love rain and am always glad to hear the pitter patter of its little feet landing on the top of my little trailer whenever I stay in it or the roof of my home in Houston, Texas.

It is amazing how certain sounds and smells bring back fond memories. Many of my fondest memories are of rainy days and nights. Two of my favorite rain songs are Neil Sedaka’s “Laughter In The Rain” and Brook Benson’s “Rainy Night In Georgia.”

I once believed and many still do that the words of the Bible more than any other book or song are sacrosanct, especially holy, without error in whole or in part, I no longer do, though I still quote the Bible often to illustrate this point or that as I do inspired words wherever I find them. I said all that to preface this remark about a life after this one that many people refer to as Heaven. For me Heaven is now, it is in my heart, in all our hearts. One Bible writer’s idea of Heaven is a place of no more tears, no more night, and a perfectly never ending cloudless day. But I say, that is not my idea of Heaven at all. A time or a place without the dark sacred night, tears of joy, and the sound of rain on the roof would not be heaven for me. There are many other wonderful rain songs that illustrate my idea of Heaven, like Eddie Rabbit’s “I Love A Rainy Night.” Willie Nelson’s “Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain” is another great one.
