Entertaining And Occupying Ourselves

Even as a young boy I became quite expert at entertaining and occupying myself. It is a skill, I think, everyone should learn as early as possible in life. It is a burden too hard to lay entirely upon someone else and one that they will find impossible to accomplish no matter how hard they try. We were not put here to make everyone else happy, we are just not equipped for it, and it is a fool’s errand to attempt it for anyone else or to expect someone else to do it for us.

Since I maintain a license plate on my pick-up from a state that only requires a rear tag, I have for a couple of years now sported on my big black front bumper a sign that reads, “Think Happy Thoughts.” To my mind, that is the first step to successfully entertaining and occupying one’s self. My good friend Mike Dooley, author of the world famous Notes From The Universe daily emails has a great line, “Thoughts become things.” The guy who wrote the book, “Think And Become Rich” also thought so as did the Proverb writer who penned Proverbs chapter 23 verse 7: “As a man thinks in his heart so is he…” That goes for you too, ladies. What we think long on, and hard on, with the most feeling is what becomes the reality in our life. One more verse and I will conclude this how to entertain and occupy yourself piece. It is this: “Whatsoever your hands find to do, do it with all your heart.”
