Charlotte’s Web – Chapter 5

Charlotte like the true hero or heroine of any story is not the loudest, biggest most out front person, but the quiet behind the scenes person who labors selflessly to make somebody else shine brighter. I saw a picture of President Harry Truman recently with words to the effect that, “It is amazing what you can accomplish if you do not care who gets the credit.” To his credit he practiced what he preached throughout his life and made a bigger difference in the world than any thought a mere high school graduate from Missouri ever would.

One of my favorite cover songs and the theme of at least two blog that I have previously written is, Trying To Leave Something Behind. That is a far easier task if we are not so intent on getting the credit. Some like Thomas Edison get the credit for a lot of things they did not invent or think of first. Why even Columbus still gets credit for discovering America when The Vikings and the Phoenicians sailed here before him and even at the time of their trips there were already millions of people here, some big discovery. It is like The Secret really, plain as the nose on our face, that gratitude primes the pump so greater blessing continue to flow to us.

How much greater things we can draw into our lives if instead of our own glory we seek to glorify others. A rising tide raises all boats they say, even our own. Today’s cover song, originally sung by the amazing Miss Bette Midler in the movie Beaches, is in tribute to the main character’s best and most supportive friend who truly was, the wind beneath her wings, a role that more of us should try on for size, so that we like former ASC (Angel Second Class) Clarence can earn our own wings.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

David White
