Sometimes When You Need A Hug, Hug Yourself
I love this picture, but then all things Marilyn are beautiful to me. I attach here one of my favorite songs about her. You may think Sir Elton John sings it better. I certainly do but I would not be a Mockingbird if I let others do all the singing nor a writer if if I let others do all the writing. Sometimes even mocking birds and writers need a hug but find themselves on their own. The smart ones learn to give themselves a hug.

When was the last time you gave yourself a hug? It is a very needed and appreciated skill. Call it practice, like pre-teen girls (probably some guys too who’d never admit it) kissing their hands or arms practicing for the warm welcome lips of another. I have already made the point and here press it that you cannot really love another unless you love yourself. And what makes you think you could adequately hug or kiss another if you have not first perfected those skills on ole number one.
And you are Number One, and by God and by yourself never forget that. You may quickly forget these words if you really even read them at all but I hope this picture of the lovely Marilyn Monroe really stays with. There are lots of stories that she was a sad and lonely lady who took her own life. Non-sense as this picture plainly shows she loved herself and gave herself freely to us. I choose to believe someone else took her life to silence her or for some other misguided reason. But that does not matter anymore. What matters is that if you find yourself feeling alone, and need a hug, hug yourself. Do it for me, do it for Marilyn, and do it for the host of people past and present who would if we could just get our hands on you.
