A Winnie The Pooh Day – Cold And Blustery

I love the line that begins a Snoopy children’s book, “It was a dark and stormy night…” And believe me only an adult can look at a potentially breezy cold and bluster day, especially one with a chance of snow, and think it anything but wonderful. A Pooh, Christopher Robin, Tigger, and Piglet day for sure. Maybe not E’ore, but then he was born under a particularly dark cloud and seems to like it there. How about you.? Are you a, “Baby it’s cold outside” kind or person or an Austin Powers type, “Yeah, Baby, oh boy it’s cold outside, here let me warm it up for you.” kind of person.

November is my birthday month – that’s right my birthday month. My wise and dearly departed daughter, Emily, taught me to take a birthday, turn it into a birthday weekend, then a birthday week, and then into a birthday month. In fact this morning, the first day of my birthday month, I figured I’d go the Muppet’s Doctor Tooth one better. His philosophy is: “There’s a party all the time for them that choose.” I just inserted “birthday party.” Elvis Presley sang, “Why can’t everyday be like Christmas?” And Christmas is Jesus’ birthday. So with very little extrapolating we get to: “They say it’s your birthday. You’re gonna have a good time.” – Everyday in every way.

Now that is a concept Pooh and Company, Snoopy and Company, and Baby and Company can fully get their hearts and minds around. Instead of thinking that this is the first day of the rest of your life – which it is, just remember it’s your birthday. Next time some party pooper says, “What do you think it is, your birthday?” Just smile real big and say, “ Yep, sunny and bright or cold and blustery, every one, and pass me another piece of birthday cake with another scoop of ice cream.” Sing it again, “Happy birthday to you…” That song never gets old nor you as long as you get one to grow on.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

The Birthday Boy,
