“It’ A New Month, Honey.”

Whether you are a Tom or a Tabby, a Clarence or a Clarissa it is October, the month the trees put on their party dresses, shake the tresses, and fill the breeze with colorful falling leaves. It is a picture many of us autumn lovers enjoy so much. How about you? Can you not appreciate at all the beauties of fall for fear of a long cold winter ahead?

Winter is lovely too, we just have to prepare for it and dress for it, take lots of warm up breaks if we “get to” be out in it. I did not say “have to.” That is so negative and that is a lot of people’s problems with weather of all kinds. We get it into our heads that because it is not our favorite weather that it is somehow, “bad” or “less than.” We do that with people and all sorts of other things too. Taste or preference is not the arbitrator of truth nor worth but only a thought and an opinion, little more, and can change often and instantly. But I just can’t change my thoughts that easily? Really but you have and so often all throughout you life. Remember that cute little girl in first grade that you thought for weeks was stuck up, a snob, till that moment she smiled at you and you thought, “Why, she’s an angel and the sweetest girl on earth.” Or maybe it was a boy, same story different sex. Many a would be priest or nun forsook a long planned vocation quick as a wink and a quite sexy one at that. Not only thoughts of sex but hundreds of other thoughts can capture our imaginations and change our minds if we let them. But we choose the ones that we dwell on, the ones we invest with the attention that can reshapes our worlds, our lives. And we do it any time. Ever thought yourself out of a corner? Sure you have, we all have, we do it all the time without thinking, but not really. Everything is first a thought. We may not even remember thinking it or perhaps someone else did, but everything is always proceeded by a thought, even as every plant, every baby begins first as a seed produced by a sexy thought no less. Sexy images are used to sell stuff because sex sells. We think a lot about sex, guys and gals.

What we think about most we mirror in our lives. Quit laughing and calling me a big boob. I’d better be nice. Ha. Seriously, though we are in charge of our thoughts and not the other way around. Louise Hay wrote  – don’t fight negative thoughts that come to you, just say, “Thank you for pointing that out. Glean whatever good you can from the information and maintain a positive outlook.” How do we do that?  By focusing more on the positive things and holding positive thoughts in our hearts and minds. I can hear someone saying, “I am positive, but I cannot stand winter and I don’t like liver either.” I threw that last part in for me. So don’t give them a thought if you really can’t stand them. Move to the tropics. Eat only vegetables and fruits or steak and chicken anything but liver (Me again.) But refuse to be a “Debbie Downer” always thinking about and naming the things that do not appeal to you or that do not make you happy.

And remember, it is a new month, Honey. Let’s start it off thinking only the highest and best of ourselves, others, and everything we can. We can. We can. We can. That’s the spirit.

David White
