I’m Your Angel
Songs have the power to inspire our hearts and to show us things we might be unwilling otherwise to hear or see. I have been listening to the great duet “I’m Your Angel” sung by Celine Dion and R. Kelly. There is nothing quite so moving as a male and female duet. I have several favorites “Suddenly Symore” from the movie Little Shop Of Horrors, “Endless Love” sung by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie, and “The Time Of My Life” from the movie Dirty Dancing to name but three and now I’m Your Angel added to a long list. I am a word guy so that is what grabs me most but haunting melodies and strong and passionate voices get my creative juices flowing too. That is how babies and great works of art have been made since we began on this big beautiful ball.

I have told more than once how I got snookered back into believing in a Higher Power after spending the middle of my life, almost twenty years as a virtual atheist. I have a high regard for atheists. They are not fools, that often quoted Psalm not withstanding. It takes a lot of faith, courage, and fortitude to be an atheist. Plus the powers that be, won’t let you be a Free Mason or a Boy Scout if you are an atheist.
I was reading a thirty-five page article called Beyond The Secret, written by a Quantum Physicist, trying to learn more about the Manifestation Process or The Secret. Early in the piece he wrote, “For this to work for you, you have to believe in a High Power. But if that is a problem for you just think of it as your highest, best self.” Damn, I was completely disarmed. Because you see that is exactly what many atheists believe and many of us really, that God, if there is a God, is with us, is in us, and is us and we Him/Her. God (He/She/We) is our Angel.
One of the best and wisest Presidents we ever had, and no President Trump I am not referring to you though best, greatest, and winningest are three words you use a lot, I am referring to Abraham Lincoln and unreconstructed Southerners may argue that point. In his first inaugural address to an already divided nation Mr. Lincoln concluded:
“I am loath to close. We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passion may have strained it must not break our bond of affection. The mystic chord of memory, stretched from every battlefield and every patriot grave to every living heart and hearthstone all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union when again touched as surely as they will be by the better angels of our nature.”
I appeal to all our better angels to recall whose angel we truly are and let love play out in this land, around the globe, and throughout this Universe as was always meant, Our Divine Angel’s Intent.
