Shout It From The Roof Top Or Quietly Make A Difference?

Some of us are more of the mind expressed in the country girl song that says:

“Make lots of noise
Kiss lots of boys
Kiss lots of girls
If that’s something you’re into.

When the strait and narrow
Gets a little to strait
Roll up a joint, (or don’t)
Just follow your arrow
Wherever it points.”

For many more of us, being on stage, the star of screen or TV, or being President behind the bully pulpit is not the path we would wish but more quietly to make a difference in the lives of our loved ones. I get that. I just wonder if we don’t try to draw the circle of our influence too small. We are capable of drawing a much bigger circle and loving and making a bigger difference in a lot more lives and the Universe itself. If we love the one we are closest to the way we should the seeming incomprehensible task becomes achievable of loving the whole world.

We need not all be writers, speakers, singers, or song writers but we all have something to share, something to teach. And whether we share that loudly in a crowd or quietly one on one it matters. We matter and so does everyone we touch. Resist the urge to believe that what you have to share is of little consequence and also that your family, group, race or nation are the only ones worthy of those gifts. You might just be surprised at how hungry those outside your usual circle are for what you have to share.

Noisily with pinnache or quietly and more subtly do let yourself be known because you are a joy to know and so many need to know you.

Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White

  1. Beautifully written! My husband and I figure that each time we live our daily lives, gathering and sharing in public places and at work, with our diverse family, friends, coworkers, and strangers, it is a peace rally in and of itself. Love guides us, and I think that we have a responsibility to cultivate and continue. Love this!!!
