Set Your Sights Higher
I am always on the look out for a good idea for a blog and am seldom with out two or three thoughts percolating on the back burner. I have set some pretty high goals for myself and thinking out loud about them the other day the words came to me, “Set your sights higher and you will shoot further.” Big goals are important to keep us moving forward ever onward and upward. We need short range more easily achievable goals to keep us encouraged but it is those big seemingly impossible dreams that thrill us and instill in us a desire to really achieve something.
The pressure is off, for you do not have to impress anyone even yourself. Your eternal estate and standing if you need such things are already secure. This adventure is all just for fun. So dream big, aim high, and just see what great things you can manifest, bring into being, if you like. Or just relax like Huck and Tom and float down the river of life. It is your life and it is your choice. Shame on you if you let me or anyone else dictate how you should live it. A few days ago I wrote a piece about the importance of getting to work and work does give many of us a sense of accomplishment. But as someone has said the important thing is to love what you do and do what you love and then it does not seem like work but play.
If you are not happy doing what you do chances are you are not going to do it very well and also you will probably make everyone else around you unhappy too. My advice is to visualize what you would like to be doing and take any small steps in that direction that open up to you. But till that door opens fully, do your best to love the job your doing now and the people you are doing it with and for. It is a Universal law that to get more and better we must first be grateful for what we already have. Discontent may bring revolution but appreciation brings sustainable and welcomed change. Hey, it’s worth a shot. And some have found that an attitude of gratitude unlocks the storehouses of the Universe till we are flooded with good stuff coming even unbidden from all directions. Yes, this is The Secret that many are writing and talking about.
It isn’t magic or hokem, it works. I came across The Secret about eight years ago and it takes a little practice but mostly a lot of discarding of old ways of thinking that did not work for me anyway but my life today is like the old Beatles song lyric, “”It’s getting better everday.” And I am ever more glad and grateful with my sights set always on the highest and best.
