Book Report

I am not an angel or a baby but still rejoice when others can see the highest and best in me and lovingly refer to me as my sweet mama did when I arrived on the planet in the fall of 1950. She called me her angel baby. I am a man, not always the brightest or best behaved, but I am, as my elder brother, also a child of the Universe or God. I have said all this before and it is probably meant more for me than you. Today, I would like to write a little book report. Remember those? I never cared for them much but because I didn’t really become a great reader till after high school. Book reports were always very much creative writing assignments for me. Not having really read the books I had to take the front and back dust jacket comments and a movie sometimes if I had seen it, based on the book, and write a story hoping to convince the teacher that I really had read the book. That process will make a good story teller out of you if nothing else.

I love a great story, a story with believable characters, acting out a plausible scenario. Many people who are not readers or movie goes have a much smaller world concept and prefer “true stories,” usually code for stories that fit snuggly into what they already think and believe or their particular narrow taste. I am reminded of that great Shakespeare quote, “There are worlds that are not dreamt of in your philosophy, Horatio.” Horatio, must have been a narrow minded dude from the context. We have all been that dude at one time or another. Perhaps that is at least part of the reason we are here, to loosen up a bit, and to expand our horizons, and tastes.

A friend of mine whose background as a life long “good girl” and who has a perhaps a limited appreciation of the great big bad sexy world sent me a book to read. The book was written by a black lady of her acquaintance. It is even autographed on the title page with a note to my friend. My friend also wrote a note to me on that page saying that she had not had the nerve to read the book but hoped that I would and tell her about it. So this is my book report to my friend and to all of my friends. First a word of warning as the author expresses on the first page, if certain words or themes offend you, you should not read beyond this point.

Words, all words, to me are but symbols of thoughts. All thoughts do not lead to actions, thank goodness, but then perhaps many great and wonderful thoughts are also left undone that should have been turned into action. I happen to see life as not a choice between heaven and hell or a gruesome trial where we prove to ourselves and God which of those places we deserve to inhabit forever. To me this life, this world is God’s playground where He/She through us gets to act out every possibility in a real-time safe environment really. I mean we will all get to wake up from these dreams or nightmares (our choice) in our own room in our loving Father/Mother’s House. How much safer could any adventure be.

My book report is on the book: Her Two Johns – A Polyamorous Romance by Phyllis O Scott.
If you would like to Purchase your own copy it is available online at Barnes and Noble for $3.99, Google Play Books for $3.01, and KoDo for $3.99. The synopsis on Google follows:

“Now that life long friends John Bishop and John Marshall-Bey have successfully seduced lovely brown Zayed MacBryan into a polyamorous relationship, the lovers could not be happier or more in love. And the sex? Combustible…”

That would be more than enough for me to write a book report for you that would curl your hair and your toes. But I won’t spoil it for you except to say Fifty Shades of Gray is barely a romp in the hay beside Miss Scott’s story. I would love to meet her one day, writer to writer.

I recommend her book to all adults especially those with a narrow outlook on life. If you have even one judgemental bone in your body let alone a prejudiced bone read this book. But as the commercials say, “Be sure your heart is healthy enough for sex before…” reading this book. It was indeed a pleasure.

Your friend and fellow traveler,

No Angel,

David White
