Beauty Is Only Skin Deep…

But lovely is through and through. Sometimes people and things are beautiful and lovely on the outside but often as a favorite Bible verse says, “We have this treasure in earth vessels.”
Like a lot of men I appreciate pretty women. Tastes differ but Christina Hendricks of Mad Men fame is right up there at the top of my list of ravishing creatures. I just watched her in a guest staring role on a Sundance Channel series, Hap and Leonard. She has such a sweet sexy voice too and was saying to the lead character who was looking at his receding hairline in the mirror and fiddling with his hair, “It looks good. There’s no beauty in perfection, Honey.” Wow, lovely, a sweet voice, and wisdom what a triple threat. You might be thinking great clothes designer, voice coach, and great writers who wouldn’t be but that’s just it. We all have within us this Loveliness and are altogether lovely. We just need to believe it and let it shine.

Our bodies they say are literally made of stardust, spent particles of once glowing stars. But even better than that we are within these clay vessels beings of light – stars, inside and out. And what are stars created to do? Why, to shine and sparkle and they do not need make-up people, voice and acting coaches, or a staff of writers to pull that off. Don’t get me wrong there is nothing wrong with trying to look your best and we all appreciate the efforts but if you really want to glow just be who you are. You are dazzling, where did I put those sun glasses? Oh, and you might have to turn down that brilliant smile till folks’ eyes adjust to the light a little but you keep on shining. Sometimes life can seem pretty dark to many of us and you just don’t know how much your light means to us all.

I am thinking of the Dionne Warwick song lyric,

“No night so dark that you can’t find the day,
No day so long that you can’t find the way.
Follow me like you used to do
I can still show you who you are.

Every night has one bright shining star.”

You are that star for someone and more likely for a lot of someones. Keep on shining, Sunshine. You are so lovely.

Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
