A Little Lesson In Abundance
If we are at all paying attention life sends us lots of little lessons along the way. For several years in mid life I used Gillette disposable double edged razors, the non pivot type. I tried the three blade razors for a while but usually shave the same spot over and over anyway so the ever increasing number of blades seems over kill to me. I mean shaving is sort of a ritual anyway so how much time can you save without ruining the ritual? When my daddy passed in 1997 I kept his razor and a pack of new blades that he had bought. I liked the feel of the heavier handle and getting to shave with the razor of the man who taught me how to shave. I did say that shaving was a ritual. It is a ritual passed down from father to son except perhaps among our bearded brothers or those whose daddies are not around to teach them.
A couple of years ago I was looking for some blades and was shocked that the price was over eighteen dollars for ten of the Ultra Gillette blades. I even asked the store manager thinking they must have mislabeled the price. He said, “Nope, that’s how much they cost, Buddy.” Pretty expensive ritual. Anyway, I got online and found the same blades made in Poland or somewhere at a lower cost and bought what I thought would last me several years, barely two actually. So I thought I’d go to the store that advertises, the best price always, and yeah, still over eighteen bucks for ten blades. I bought a trial size disposable pack of razors for a buck and got back online. The best price for Gillette Ultra was still right at fourteen bucks for ten blades. But they had a better deal for PersonnaTwins, that I remembered being comparable, so I ordered about fifty bucks worth including shipping and figured I would be good for another couple of years. They came yesterday, three packages, each containing one hundred blades. Three hundred blades, that ought last me for sometime. But I am in this for the long haul. Still it is nice to be reminded like that wonderful song about the love of God says, “Out there beyond the horizon, there’s more, there’s more.”
Shortage is one of ego’s biggest lies. You may think my story about razor blades a bit silly or frivolous but to me it is just another little lesson in abundance. My personal mantra for several years has been and continues to be: “I am so grateful that everything that I could ever want or need is already mine and coming to me at just the right time and in just the right way from my loving and infinite Source.” The Psalmist was more succinct, “My cup runneth over.” And my Louise Hay calendar page for today (as I write this) says, “I act as if I already have what I want – it is an excellent way to attract happiness into my life.” Do you believe that? Try it, it works for me.
