The Four W’s And H

I have been at this blogging business, platform building, almost two years now and as you can see by the blog number I have been a busy bee. Some day when I am a more widely recognized writer I intend that many more will come to appreciate these daily doses of life according to David. I do not worry about “How” (Actually I try to make it a habit not to worry about anything) but I do try to concentrate on the Four W’s namely Who, What, When, and Where.

I have given the Four W’s quite a lot of thought since Journalism class in high school some years ago where I was taught that a good news story gives the reader all the important information about a story in the lead paragraph, the who, what, when, where, and how (the four W’s and H). When it comes to living I have found that it is most important to figure out what we really want and to ask for it specifically and then put it out of our mind trusting God, the Universe, to send it our way or more accurately to pull it out of that magic hat the resides within each one of us. That is why we are instructed that when we ask we are to believe that the answer to our prayers is already ours for indeed it is just coming to us at the right time and in the right way from our loving and infinite source. And, yes, I have heard all the “work hard and play by the rules” theories about how to get what you want but I just don’t buy it. Working hard just gets you calloused hands and a worn out body. And playing by the rules, as good as that sounds, the rules are made by the rich and powerful to make sure they stay that way and so nobody disrupts business as usual. I saw a wonderful documentary on World War One last night. And it was interesting to me that revolution came out of the calloused way those in charge on all sides kept throwing young men’s lives away in frontal assaults and that the one recurring strategy was always a larger attack to break through the enemy lines and win the peace. People in power still play that same silly game today and waste lives which are to them to borrow a phrase from soldiers in World War One who believed it true of their role in the Great War, “Just meat for the meat grinder.”

Let’s look at those four important W’s. WHO: Who are you? Whose are you? Who is in charge of your life? Who decides? Who gets the praise? Who gets the blame? Who cares? Pretty important questions are these that deserve some real answers. WHAT: What’s it all about, Alfie? What next? What to do? What are we talking about anyway? WHEN: Are we there yet? When is that letter going to arrive? When, oh when is my prince or princess going to get here or my ship come in? And WHERE: Where oh where are we going to put it all? Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego? or Where is Waldo? Where will the money come from to pay for this or that?

Important questions for sure but again the most important thing is to figure out what you want, not what you don’t want for thinking about and dwelling on those things only attracts the wrong things into your experience. Concentrate on the What. You already know or should by now the Who. And you can leave the When and Where all up to Him/Her and most especially the cursed How’s. It is a trap of the worst kind to get caught up in the endless circle of trying to figure out the How. Please leave that to the One who knows best how to deliver on all Her/His promises.

Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
