Time To Do A Little Unpacking
In response to a quote that a friend sent me, “The only things you can take with you when you leave this world are the things you’ve packed inside your heart.” I replied, “Or what you came with, a heart pre-packed by Love, Him/Herself. That is why I think the real discoveries and treasures on this marvelous adventure/vacation in Time and Space are in unpacking and in enjoying the wonderful picnic basket that was packed for us within. I believe we all carry within our own heart a big piece of God, of Love, to reveal to us Who and Whose we truly are. The clues to our secret identity are all around us but the answer is inside us and has been there all along. Thanks for sharing, Friend.”
Last weekend I moved back into my semi-permanent residence, a nineteen foot pull behind RV camper trailer. I have been staying in motels for the last five and a half months and much as I enjoyed that I missed my Direct TV and my little house on wheels. My own space is a relatively small space so I am continually challenged to limit what I bring into it and am forced to get rid of some things to make room for any new thing that I bring in. Our heart is not a three dimensional space however and is more than capable of expanding to make room for anyone or anything we bring into it. And indeed it contains a world of treasures to discover. We have been conditioned to be in awe of the wonders of outer space but equally awe inspiring are the wonders and vastness of inner space. If you could, as some claim to be able to, travel outside your body one of the biggest marvels you would discover is that re- packing all that bigness that is the real you back inside that tiny vehicle in which you currently abide would take some expert packing.
But for a moment let us consider some of the things your Loving Parent packed for you on this trip to Earth Camp as it were. Number One on the list is love, lots of love, more than enough for you and plenty to share with your campmates, so much in fact that you can lavish it on pets, plants, and even so called inanimate objects. That last one is really a misnomer because everything that is vibrates or has a spirit or is of the spirit that made and moves all things, rocks, and trees, and even mountains. But what else did Papa/Mama pack? Why, everything you could ever want or need, even the kitchen sink, but most especially the Heaven that most everyone supposes is high in the sky in the sweet by and by. Not so for Jesus says, “The kingdom of heaven is within you.” Right next to plenty of clean underwear with your name tags sewn in them. That Mama/Papa is a great provider and wants all good scouts to “be prepared” for every eventuality and we are. Everything, the Universe, is inside us. Looking for answers, look within. Need courage, hope, whatever it is all there too. As the Hee Haw guy used to say, “Right next to my heart, heart, heart.” Better start unpacking if you plan to stay a while. I understand the second act is even better that the first. But you may want to keep an extra pair of those personally labeled underwear handy as there might be an unexpected thrill a head.
