One Man’s Treasure
I believe that the expression is, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.” I have come to believe that there is value in everyone and everything. As Disney’s Pocahontas sang that, “Every rock, and tree, and creature has a spirit has a name.” I was in Cindy’s Fudge and Ice Cream Shop yesterday in Mineral Point, Wisconsin and bought a most delicious piece of chocolate walnut fudge. While there I noticed that hanging on the wall were several pieces of wooden cut out art. I remarked to a friend later that I would like to have a piece of art like that to hang on the limited wall space in my travel trailer. Today at Crazy Frank’s Flea Market also in Mineral Point my eye caught such a treasure so reasonably priced that I could not let it pass. The beautiful bear in the woods is pictured with this piece and I have already hung it in my motel room and will transfer it to my travel trailer when I move back into it in a couple of weeks. I have the bear near my desk where I write for added inspiration.
To many the term treasure means cash, gold, silver, diamonds, and jewels. But treasure is truly anything of value and art is of great value. The Great Artist, the true Inspiration of all artists has filled this world and all the worlds beyond with art for us to treasure and appreciate. Mona Lisa’s smile is not the only beautiful artful smile. As it is a natural tendency to yawn when you see someone else yawn, even a baby, it is natural to smile when you see someone else smile, especially a baby. There is so much treasure in a smile even when there are no gold fillings on display. Beauty and art truly is in the eye of the beholder but then so also is treasure.
Jesus remarked once, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” I like to pair that verse with another verse I recall, “Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.” All appreciation of art, of beauty, of treasure all lead to the Great Treasure Chest, the heart of God – your heart, my heart, all hearts beat to the rhythm of that One heart. The game is rigged my friend, the house always wins, all roads lead home, all lives matter, and nothing of value is ever lost.
You are a treasure of inestimable value. Any value that you see in another or in anything is also in you, in me, in everyone for we are His treasure, we are His beloved. And as for you Capitalists whether the market is bullish or bearish His stock is always up.
Your friend and fellow traveler,
David White
